Is it difficult if I’ve never tried paddleboarding?
No, stand up paddleboarding is one of the most accessible water sports. Most beginners are standing within the first few minutes. An instructor covers the basics on land — foot position, holding the paddle, balance, stroke technique and turning — then joins you on the water. Djerba’s waters are shallow and usually very calm, making them an ideal place to learn. If you’d rather start on your knees before standing up, that’s perfectly fine.
How long is a session and what options are available?
Several options are offered: a 1-hour introductory lesson with an instructor, ideal for beginners; free hire by the hour or half-day for those who are more independent; and a guided paddle of 1.5 to 2 hours along the coast or towards the lagoons. Sunrise and sunset sessions are also available and much loved for the light and the absolute stillness of the water.
Do I need to swim and is there a minimum age?
Swimming ability is recommended, as you’ll most likely fall in at least once — it’s part of the fun and perfectly safe. A life jacket is available and compulsory for children. The activity is suitable from around 8 to 10 years old, with minors accompanied by an adult. A leash attaches the board to your ankle, so there’s no risk of losing it.
Is equipment provided and what should I bring?
The board, a paddle adjusted to your height, the leash and a life jacket are all provided and matched to your build and level. You just need a swimsuit, a towel, water-resistant sunscreen, a cap and securely fastened sunglasses. A waterproof pouch is recommended if you want to take your phone along for photos. In winter, a neoprene top can be provided on request.
What are the best conditions and what happens if it’s windy?
The best conditions are early morning or late afternoon, when the wind is lightest and the sea is mirror-smooth. Paddleboarding is possible year-round in Djerba, with pleasant water temperatures from April to November. Wind is the main limiting factor: if it picks up too strongly, the session is postponed or refunded for safety reasons, as returning to shore becomes difficult. Instructors monitor conditions continuously.

Une aventure inoubliable sur les eaux de Djerba !
Mon expérience de Stand Up Paddle à Djerba avec Djerba Guide a été absolument fantastique ! Glisser sur les eaux calmes et cristallines de l'île paradisiaque de Djerba a été une expérience véritablement magique. Le guide était compétent et attentionné, nous offrant des conseils utiles pour maîtriser la planche. La vue sur les côtes de Djerba depuis la mer était à couper le souffle.
