Do I need riding experience to take part?
No, the ride is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced riders. On arrival, an instructor assesses your level and matches you with a horse of suitable temperament. A briefing covers the basics: sitting correctly, holding the reins, steering and stopping your horse. Beginners stay at a walk throughout, while experienced riders can ask to trot or canter along suitable stretches of beach.
How does the 2.5-hour ride work and what route does it take?
After a welcome and briefing at the equestrian centre, you set off for around 2.5 hours on horseback with a guide. The route alternates between long stretches of beach at the water’s edge, trails through palm groves, and the typical inland landscapes of Djerba. A break is scheduled halfway through to rest the horses, have a drink and take photos. The sunset ride is the most requested, for its exceptional light over the sea.
Is there a minimum age or weight limit?
The 2.5-hour ride is recommended from around 10 to 12 years old, with minors accompanied by an adult or holding parental consent. For younger children, a shorter pony ride or a led horse ride is usually available. A weight limit of around 90 kg applies out of respect for the horses. The activity is not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with back or joint problems.
What should I wear and is equipment provided?
Wear long trousers or leggings — never shorts, which cause chafing — along with closed shoes with a small heel, or trainers. Avoid sandals and flip-flops. A riding helmet is provided by the centre and is strongly recommended, and compulsory for minors. Also bring a hat for the breaks, sunscreen and water. Saddles and all other tack are provided and checked before departure.
When is the best time to go and what happens in bad weather?
Departures take place in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest hours, especially in summer. The activity runs year-round, with ideal conditions from March to November. In case of heavy rain, strong wind or excessive heat, the ride is rescheduled to another slot or fully refunded. Book ahead in high season — the number of horses available per departure is limited.

Nous avons fait cette balade avec nos ados, ils ont adoré! Les chevaux sont très bien dressés et le guide est très attentif. La traversée de la lagune restera un souvenir inoubliable.

Dépaysement total
Quel bonheur de découvrir l'arrière-pays de Djerba à cheval! Les sentiers bordés d'aloès vera et de figuiers de barbarie sont magnifiques. La pause rafraîchissante au bord de l'eau était parfaite.

Une parenthèse enchantée
2h30 de pur bonheur à cheval! La balade longe la lagune avec des vues à couper le souffle. Les chevaux sont très calmes et en bonne santé. Un grand merci au guide pour sa gentillesse.

Pour tous les niveaux
Je n'avais pas monté à cheval depuis longtemps et cette balade était parfaite. Le guide adapte l'allure selon le niveau de chacun. Paysages magnifiques avec les figuiers de barbarie et la lagune.

Une expérience équestre exceptionnelle à Djerba !
Ma balade découverte de cheval de 2h30 à Djerba avec Djerba Guide a été une expérience véritablement mémorable. Les chevaux étaient bien entretenus et bien entraînés, ce qui a rendu la balade agréable et sûre. Le paysage de Djerba était magnifique, et galoper le long des plages et à travers les dunes a été un moment vraiment magique. Le guide était très compétent et attentionné, nous fournissant des informations intéressantes sur l'île et ses environs. Je recommande vivement cette excursion à tous ceux qui cherchent à découvrir la beauté de Djerba à dos de cheval.
